This reminds me of Louis Althusser’s argument that everyone should be a Marxist because it was in their objective interest: if you are a Marxist in a Liberal society, the Liberals will let you be; but if you are a Marxist in a Marxist society, you can send the Liberals to the gulag! Ergo, it’s smarter to be a Marxist.
(Note, this isn’t a knock on the quote above, it’s a great quote, absolutely true.)
